Richie leaves Harlem to join the United States Army in Vietnam, Leaving his chip in back and younger brother Kenney behind. Back with his unit and their naked leader, Corporal Brunner, who leads the men on a gonely rush along the river. After a serial publication of mistakes firefight breaks out leaving Richie and Peewee wounded. Their wounds were serious enough to crystallize a throw off from the army.
